Volunteers play a crucial role with Alpine Hospice. Volunteers find it personally gratifying, intellectually stimulating and emotionally meaningful to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives. Volunteers consistently report that helping the terminally ill is not about dying but about living. We depend on our volunteers not only for direct patient contact but also for office support. There are as many different opportunities for volunteering as there are volunteers. Some examples include:

Patient & family care

  • Visits or calls to a patient or family member
  • Companionship and conversation
  • Shopping or errands
  • Reading aloud, listening to music or looking at pictures together
  • Sitting with a patient so the caregiver can have some time away from the home, knowing someone will be there with their loved one in their absence
  • Journaling or playing games
  • Bereavement support

Office support

  • Typing letters
  • Filing
  • Newsletters
  • Community outreach and volunteer recruitment

Volunteers are provided with specific training and support and may be reimbursed for their mileage. We offer flexible schedules and ask for a minimum of one hour/week time commitment. If you are interested in volunteering please contact your local Alpine Hospice office.
